Las Vegas is the largest city in Nevada, with a metropolitan area population of around 2.2 million people.

Although this number comprises 65% of the state’s population, it pales in comparison to the number of tourists that visit the city each year.

According to Family Destinations Guide, “In 2021, there were 32,230,600 visitors to Las Vegas.”

This figure translates to approximately 87,000 people per day.

With such a large number of people passing through the city on a daily basis, it’s no wonder that Las Vegas needs more than one jail.

There are, in fact, three major jail facilities in addition to the main Clark County Detention Center within the greater Las Vegas area.

The Four Jails In The Las Vegas Area

The four jail facilities in the Las Vegas area are as follows:

  1. North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center (North Las Vegas CCC or North Las Vegas Detention Center or North Las Vegas Jail)
  1. Las Vegas Detention Center (Las Vegas City Jail)
  1. Henderson Detention Center (also doubles as the Las Vegas Immigration Jail)
  1. Clark County Detention Center (CCDC, but it is also sometimes incorrectly called the Las Vegas Detention Center)

We know that the jail system in the Las Vegas area can be somewhat confusing since every jail goes by more than one name, so we hope this information helps clarify which jails are which.

Background Information About North Las Vegas Jail

If someone commits a misdemeanor within Las Vegas city limits, then they’ll likely be held at North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center (North Las Vegas Jail), which is located at 2332 Las Vegas Blvd N, Suite 120, North Las Vegas, NV 89030.

The facility holds people who have committed certain misdemeanors and felonies, such as driving under the influence, within Las Vegas city limits.

The facility also houses people from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the United States Marshal Service.

Clark County Detention Center vs. North Las Vegas Jail

The Clark County Detention Center (CCDC) is responsible for holding those who have committed gross misdemeanors and felonies within the city.

With that said, offenders from CCDC may be taken to North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center when the CCDC is experiencing inmate overflow.

Please remember that although the two jails exchange inmates from time to time, they are indeed separate facilities.

If you ever need to refresh your memory, you can refer to the Four Jails In The Las Vegas Area section of this article.
